The Facebooking young women of Palghar.

A lot is being said, little being done and definitely nothing can be undone about the unfortunate turn of events leading to the arrest of the two Facebooking young women from Palghar.

Anti Sena sentiments that can seldom be aired are finding their way onto our screen thanks to Social Media.

Media persons have their daggers out and the Indian Constitution which I believe is one of the best in the world is under fire.

Now let’s analyze the actuals:

A citizen of India felt strongly about a political outfit. She felt ‘Mental Agony’ and anguish about the fact that everything around her had shut down. So she aired her frustration like many of us on Facebook. Her comment was appreciated by only one of her friends and thanks to the fact that there is no ‘Dislike’ on Facebook, some of her other friends on Facebook could not express her displeasure. May be one among them was so traumatized by her comment that he aired his grievance to a local Shiv Sena leader.

According to media reports this Shakha Pramukh called up the girl and asked her to withdraw the comment. The woman in question refused.

Unconfirmed reports also suggest intimidation like “do what you have to but I will not delete the comment.”

Further details of the conversation are not available to me but this seems to be reason enough for the Shakha Pramukh to channelize the already pissed off followers.

When the Police was called in all that they did was took down a complaint and acted by arresting the two women.

Well what we think they should have done is a different matter but under the various constraints that the Police of our country usually operate, I think what they did was best. They simply defused a situation at hand.

Imagine if they hadn't arrested the women. A bunch of 3000 vandals would have helped themselves to what they believe is justice. And how bloody would that have been???

It is very easy for us to also think that a 15 men strong Police station should have heard both sides of the story and then acted by taking on 3000 Sainiks who had just lost their most charismatic leader.

Think again … I think the Police ensured that the girls are safe and the reaction is only on Social Media and not on the Streets of Palgar.
